London Giude: First-timer walk — NOTES OF WINTER

London Giude: First-timer walk

As you must know it by now, I have lived in London for a long time. Today, I decided to write an article, sort of a first-timer's guide. Speaking of which, what do you think about a London serie? There are so many things to do in the city, so many neighborhood to visit and to discover, the capital is full of secret you must discover. I'm presenting a basic day trip in the city today, some ideas on what to see at first so let's not waste any more time, let's do some sightseeing. Let me introduce you my favorite walk around the city, if you are coming to London only for a day, it's definitely what you should start with. Let's begin around Westminster (the underground station) where the the legendary Big Ben stands proudly. You are alongside the Thames, there's the London Eye on the other side of the river and, if you want, you can walk to Westminster Abbey, it's not far and it's honestly quite beautiful.
What I usually do is walking from Big Ben towards Trafalgar Square (A3212/Whitehall), you will walk past the Primer Minister official residence (10 Dowing St) and the Horse Guard. Then, you'll arrive on Trafalgar Square where you can see the Landseer's Lions and the square. There's also the National Gallery you can visit but I don't remember the prices. I think membership is 66£ per year and you can access all the exhibitions. However, is it really worthy if you don't live near London? To my opinion, not really!
Then, you can walk to Leicester Square - also, don't do like me, you have to prononce Leister Square and not the entire thing. It's a square (thank you, captain obvious) where you can see the Odeon Cinema, that's usually where the movie premiere are organised in the city. There's also the M&M's world and in front of it, the Lego shop. Walk through the square and follow the street and you'll end up on Piccadilly Circus, usually know as "the place with all the screens" aka. London's equivalent of Time Square.
(William Shakespeare's statue is in Leicester Square)
Either you stop there or you can walk towards Oxford Street. To do so, follow Regent Street which is also a street full of shops. You can also discover Carnaby Street which is another shopping street. If you visit London in that purpose at least you know where to go! If it's a rainy day, there's another option I won't really present in this article: Westfield Shopping Center. There are 2 in London: White City and Stratford (both on the central line - the red one). Be ready to spend your money...
Oxford Street is probably the best place to do some shopping, especially when the weather is nice. Around the commercial street, you can find some restaurant as well and if you want a nice walk you still can go to Hyde Park which is located at the end of the street. That's usually when I stop, because it's already a nice and long walk. If you are lucky enough to travel to London during wintertime, you can definitely check out for Winter Wonderland. It's really great!
That's the basic central-London day trip. London is a big city which has so much to offer and honestly, even after years I'm still discovering new places. There's so many things I haven't seen yet but I don't give up. I really love the city and you know what they say? When a man is tired of London, he's tired of life. That is true! Thanks for these kind words, Samuel Johnson! Do you love London? Have you visited it yet? Let me know everything in the comments below and stay tuned cause there are a lot of other articles about the city upcoming.
