Money savings for dummies

This picture doesn't belong to me
Saving money, isn't an easy thing to do, I have to admit that even myself I struggle a lot. I don't even know what I'm saving money for, at first it was mainly for a house but I still don't know. Instead, I started saving for the rainy days because having an emergency funds is important, just in case something would happen! So far, I managed to do it properly, I saved a nice amount of money and I'll share with you all my tips to help you doing it as well. I'm a basic twenty-ish girl, I work full time, I have a rent and bills to pay, my salary is decent and I'm debt-free. I'm also quite conscious when it comes to money. We all have different profile but that's mine, I don't have any children, I am financially independent and the only person I'm taking care of is mysef. So, here are my tips to save money, I hope this will help you.

START BUDGETING YOUR MONEY

That's the "saving money 101". Budget every damn little thing! In my case I do it old fashioned way: on paper (or sometimes in my notes). I write everything I'm buying daily. Let's start with basic stuff: rent and bill - I don't pay transportation because I commute to work by foot but I'm just adding this up when I'm traveling for exemple. Keep a track of your expenses, that's quite simple, there are apps made for that, if you need that extra help, just download one and you'll see how this will change your routine! You'll thank me later!

PUT YOURSELF SOME GOALS
I started saving money in September, my goal was to save 1000$ before December 31st. For exemple, my goal for 2020 is to have 5000$ on my savings account before the end of the year so I can start 2021 with more money. You can start by saving every penny you can even if you don't see a difference at first, trust me, once this start adding up to the last savings you made, you'll see the difference. If your goal is to save 1£ per day or 200£ per month, it's totally okay of course! Don't forget that you can choose to save automatically money. Another goal could be saving money to buy a car, to travel or for college for exemple, just set you own goal and if you don't know what for, just save and you'll see one day!

DEFINE YOUR PRIORITIES
I, personally, decided to cut off the money/clothes budget. Not totally of course but at least a bit, I'm always wearing the same clothes anyway, it doesn't make a lot of difference. That way, the money I would normally spend in clothing or makeup will be saved, or course, I allow myself to buy things I really need or if the product if a favorite.

SET UP A SAVINGS ACCOUNT
That's not even a joke: set up another account where you'll place your money with one rule: do not touch that money. I'm too much of a spending-money type of person (even if I'm still very conscious - I'm too scared of the overdrawn) but I have an bank account with a savings section (with another bank) where I place all my saving. I never log on this account to be honest which means I don't have the temptation of using that money because I don't see it, I "forget" about it. It's quite simple and it works a lot for me because I don't see it every time I check my regular account.

I used to be a big spender and to be honest I still can be but I noticed I had no personal saving, that's basically what motivates me to start doing it. Some months are going to be easier than other, I'm not gonna lie however, if I can do it, you can too! Saving money doesn't mean you stop living, it's not a bad thing, it's the total opposite! Is there anything you want to save money for? Let me know, I'm curious to read all about it!
