Hi y'all! If you don't know what Good Genes is, you probably live under a rock. It's basically one of the best product out there but also a very expensive one. It retails for £85 on Cult Beauty or SpaceNK, here in the UK. As I said: quite expensive. But thanks god, Klarna is here to save your asses, I bought mine on CultBeauty and I split the pay in 3, so I only pay £28.33 per month. Anyhow, this article isn't about the price of the product but how it changed my skin.
I discovered Good Genes last year. It was during the winter time, I was frequently visiting Sephora and I was looking for something to get the rid of my skin texture. Here's what happened: one of the Sephora girl gave me a sample of this. Before announcing the price. I was speechless and not really convinced. I tried it that evening and for few days. And a miracle happened. The scar I had on my forehead started to be less visible. I couldn't really believe it. Was it a miracle in a bottle? Well, sort of. I went to Sephora few times after this and I asked for few other samples (I tried few shops, yes) because I wanted to see how far I could push the miracle. You need to know something tho. When I tried it for the first time, it was the OG version, the one with Lactic Acid. In the meantime, they reformulated it with Glycolic Acid instead. The reformulated version is only available since March if I remember well.
GOOD GENES BY SUNDAY RILEY: REVIEW
As I said, Good Genes is a serum from the brand Sunday Riley. It's a multi-tasking Glycolic Acid Treatment that can be used as a mask as well (but I haven't tried yet). It basically un-do the damage caused by sunlight, acne, pollution and a less-than-healthy lifestyle. These aren't my words, it's the description you can find online. And I can confirm the saying, I have a less-than-healthy lifestyle. I don't do sport, I love junkfood and takeaways or just unhealthy food in general... Don't blame me.― THE PROMISES
A smooth, refined, clarified and brightened skin by breaking out clogged pores, gently exfoliating the skin and minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and even dullness. As I said, this sounds like a magic potion to stay young and beautiful eternally. Well, maybe not.
― THE PACKAGING
It's sleek, nice, it looks so bougee and honestly I love it, this looks really good. This comes in a glass bottle with a pump, it's not really transparent but you can clearly see the product inside. But there's not lid on the product so basically you just have the bottle and the pump. The glass bottle comes in a box, a nice box by way.
― THE PRODUCT
First, I need to let you know that a little goes a long way. A pump is enough to do my face and to drag the product down to my neck. Then, about the consistency, it's a white product but not with a strong opacity if that makes sens, it's also really creamy and absolutely not thick. Last, once applied, at first, you'll probably feel the product tingling, it's normal, this means it works and it's also due to the acid component. I don't really feel it anymore as I'm used to it now but at first it can feel a bit uncomfortable. But this doesn't burn, at least, it didn't on me.
Precision: there's a smell so if you don't like that type of product or if your skin is sensitive to smelly product, you probably won't like this.
HOW THIS SAVED MY SKIN
Okay, saving is probably too much of a bigger word but this improved my skin texture so much. I'm lucky to have a nice skin, I wouldn't say perfect because I had a lot of texture when I started using this product, even just for a week. But I've never had acne or even blemishes so that's already a good start. However, I used to have a huge scar on my forehead and a lot of lumps and bumps, I'm not even going to start talking about my dilated pores, my black heads and my texture. Even if it wasn't dramatic, it was awful for me, I was looking at my skin with makeup and it was awful, I was cakey af. I've always wanted a dollskin type of skin. And I never got it. But now, I have a very healthy, glowy and radiant skin and this is mainly due to this product, I don't have any pores, my makeup looks flawless and this makes me so happy. I'll try to add a before/after but I'm not sure I have any picture of my skin before trying this beauty potion because I was feeling to bad about it. Once again, I never had any acne or whatever, this is just my experience and how I felt with my skin.Another precision, I have used it for maybe a month or two thanks to Sephora samples and then, I totally stopped using it for months. I've already noticed a huge change on my skin. I started using this again at the end of October. In the meantime, I used a very cheap sort of dupe (of the OG tho), it helps me clearing out my skin a bit but it never did as much as the actual product, so it's clear. I wanted to be totally transparent about it. If you are interesting in the "dupe" version, it's The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%, this retails for £5.80 (there's a 5% LA as well). I still use it, depending on my mood or sometimes even under the Good Genes but my skin is really strong and not sensitive at all. Also, I'll probably write an article about this brand anytime soon, because it's a gem.
THE FINAL THOUGHT
If that was possible, I'd give a million stars to this product. But I can't. I'll give it a VERY STRONG 4.5 out of 5. Just because of the price. I can't really justify putting that much money in one product but it's just so good that I can't live without it anymore. So, I'll keep buying it over and over. Because I love it so much. And you will find me on social networks as well, such as instagram and pinterest
